Key Background:

Sony is marking a big milestone in its gaming journey. It has been 30 years since the first PlayStation launched in North America and Europe, after its debut in Japan. To celebrate, the company is releasing a special photography book and working with Reebok on a new sneaker collaboration.

The book, PlayStation: The First 30 Years, has 400 pages of rare and unseen content. It shows controller prototypes, early consoles, concept sketches, and design ideas that shaped PlayStation over the years. According to the official PlayStation Blog, this is the first time fans will gain access to such a detailed archive of the company’s design history.

The book is scheduled for release in spring 2026 and is currently available for preorder through Read-Only Memory’s online bookstore. Two editions are on offer: the Standard Edition priced at $125 and a Deluxe Edition priced at $325. The Deluxe edition comes in a foil-stamped box and includes an exclusive print signed by PlayStation designer Teiyu Goto and photographer Benedict Redgrove. Only 1,994 copies of this edition will be made, making it a rare collector’s item.

In addition to the book, Sony announced a collaboration with Reebok. The PlayStation x Reebok sneakers will come out in October 2025 and include three retro-style designs. Each pair pays tribute to the console’s original launch regions, with the InstaPump Fury 94 representing Japan, the Workout Plus designed for the United Kingdom, and the Pump Omni Zone II for the United States. All three sneakers feature gray tones reminiscent of the first PlayStation console. Pricing and broader availability details will be revealed closer to launch.

With these projects, Sony is celebrating 30 years of gaming and connecting with fans in new ways. Whether through the collectible art book or the sneaker collection, the PlayStation anniversary brings together its history and modern style
